EFSC Drops Four-Set Match on Sophomore Night; Two Titans Named First-Team All-Conference

Oct. 29, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's volleyball team bid seven sophomores farewell on Tuesday's Sophomore Night before dropping a four-set match to Polk State College on the Melbourne Campus.

The 21-25, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25 defeat dropped Eastern Florida to 13-22 on the season but not without a valiant, stirring effort. Eastern Florida closes its season with a 7 p.m. Friday match at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach.

The match featured 30 ties with no lead being more than nine points.

The Titans recognized seven sophomores: libero and defensive specialist Brittany Collison of Lake Placid, FL; middle hitter Ashley Dills of Winter Haven, FL; setter Taylor Gembecki of Fort Myers, FL; outside hitter Ashley Gonzalez of Warner Robbins, GA; outside hitter, libero and defensive specialist Alana Nielander of Lake Placid, FL; outside hitter and middle Micaela Vowkinel of Carson City, NV; and libero and defensive specialist Sara Watkins of Chuluota, FL.

Eastern Florida did garner two Florida College System Activities Association All-Southern Conference first team selections on Tuesday in Gembecki and freshman outside hitter Arianna Bethel. Nielander and freshman opposite Mariah Davis and were named to the second team.

Polk improved to 21-14 overall. The Eagles earlier defeated Eastern Florida in four sets on Aug. 29 in Winter Haven.
