Sophomore Night on Tap for Eastern Florida Volleyball

Oct. 28, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's volleyball team plays its 2013 home finale at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 — a Sophomore Night match against Polk State College on the Melbourne Campus. Admission is free.

The Titans will recognize seven sophomores: libero and defensive specialist Brittany Collison of Lake Placid, FL; middle hitter Ashley Dills of Winter Haven, FL; setter Taylor Gembecki of Fort Myers, FL; outside hitter Ashley Gonzalez of Warner Robbins, GA; outside hitter, libero and defensive specialist Alana Nielander of Lake Placid, FL; outside hitter and middle Micaela Vowkinel of Carson City, NV; and libero and defensive specialist Sara Watkins of Chuluota, FL.

Gembecki ranks 47th nationally in assists with her team-high total of 643 and is 53rd in assists per set with her team-high 6.37. She also has played in a team-high 31 matches and is third in sets played with 101. She leads in service aces with 38 and is fourth in digs with 159.

Watkins is fifth in digs with 127 and is fourth in service aces with 20. Nielander leads in digs with 203. Vowinkel is second in blocks with 66.

Freshman Mariah Davis leads Eastern Florida in sets played with 106 and in kills with 249. Freshman Michelle Rodriguez leads in blocks with 70.

Eastern Florida is 13-21 overall and finished 2-6 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference.

Polk is 20-14 overall and finished 5-3 and tied for second in the FCSAA Suncoast Conference. The Eagles defeated Eastern Florida in four sets on Aug. 29 in Winter Haven.

Eastern Florida concludes its season at 7 p.m. Friday at Daytona State College (18-4 overall and 4-4 in the FCSAA Mid-Florida Conference) in Daytona Beach.
