10th-Ranked Miami Dade Next Up for Eastern Florida Volleyball

Oct. 14, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's volleyball team hosts its second nationally ranked opponent of the season on Tuesday in No. 10 Miami Dade College.

The 6 p.m. meeting is Eastern Florida's final Florida College System Activities Association South Conference home match of the season. Miami Dade (7-0 in conference and 16-4 overall) has wrapped up another conference title.

Eastern Florida is 1-5 in conference play and 9-18 overall. Miami Dade defeated Eastern Florida in four sets on Sept. 19 in Kendall.

Statistically for Eastern Florida, freshman Mariah Davis leads in kills with 180 while classmate Arianna Bethel has 158. Sophomore Taylor Gembecki leads in assists with 450. Freshman Michelle Rodriguez leads in blocks with 49. Sophomore Micaela Vowinkel has 47 and Bethel 46. Sophomore Alana Nielander has 175 digs; Davis has 124 and Gembecki and freshman Carl Kiam Assato have 123.

Eastern Florida is ranked 14th nationally in solo blocks at 140 and total blocks at 235.

For Miami Dade, outside hitter Wendy Romero is ranked second nationally with 5.48 kills per set and third nationally in hitting percentage at .464. Miami Dade is second nationally as a team in hitting percentage at .354; second in assists per set at 13.88; third in kills per set at 14.31; third in digs per set at 20.64 and fourth in points per set at 18.4.

Eastern Florida hosted second-ranked Hillsborough Community College on Oct. 4 and lost in three sets.

Eastern Florida wraps up its 2013 home season with Sophomore Night against Polk State College on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Admission to Eastern Florida home matches in the Melbourne Campus gym is free.
