Eastern Florida Volleyball Drops Two Matches at Home
Sept. 7, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's volleyball team dropped both matches in Saturday's three-team event on the Melbourne Campus.
Eastern Florida suffered its second sweep this season at the hands of Florida State College Jacksonville in the day's final match, falling 20-25, 19-25 and 15-25. Eastern Florida lost the day's first match in five sets to Webber International's junior varsity, 25-14, 25-16, 24-26, 22-25 and 8-15.
The sweep by FSCJ, Eastern Florida's second loss by sweep in its last three matches - it suffered a three-set loss to Daytona State on Tuesday - dropped the Titans to 3-5 on the season. FSCJ, which swept Webber in the day's second match, improved to 9-1.
Eastern Florida played FSCJ even early in the second set but the Bluer Wave sprinted away from an 11-11 tie with a 14-8 run for the victory.
Eastern Florida breezed through the first two sets against Webber, trailing by one point only once.
But Webber overcame an early Eastern Florida lead and survived 13 ties in a tight third set to win and then prevailed in the final two sets for the victory. Eastern Florida led only once by one point over the final two sets.
Eastern Florida travels to Florida Christian College for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday and then begins Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference play at 6 p.m. Thursday as it hosts Indian River State College.
