Eastern Florida Volleyball Hosts Tri-Match on Saturday

Sept. 6, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's volleyball team will seek to get back on the winning track on Saturday as it hosts a tri-match in the Melbourne Campus gym.

Admission is free.

Eastern Florida, 3-3 and losers of two straight matches, plays Webber International's junior varsity at noon at Florida State College at Jacksonville at 4 p.m. Webber and FSCJ play at 2 pm.

FSCJ was 7-1 heading into this week including a sweep of Eastern Florida in August's season-opening tournament in Jacksonville.

ESFC head coach Herb Tokumoto is getting his team back to basics.

"What we were looking at was what we were inconsistent with and we have structured our practices to address those issues," he said.

"I know I said I had suspected a lack of heart. I believe it has been resolved. I really feel the players understand the importance of approaching every match as if it's their first match and never taking anything for granted.

"We also started talking about stressing the details instead of just approaching it haphazardly. We've taken it and broken it down to the basic level of technique and how that increases the odds of doing it better."

To that end Tokumoto is hopeful that his players can set the tone.

"We look at it as what we need to do to achieve the final outcome," he said. "Hopefully they'll have to adjust to us as opposed to us adjusting to them."

Eastern Florida opens Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference play at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 against Indian River State College in the Melbourne gym.
