BCC Falls in Straight Sets to Indian River State in Volleyball

October 16, 2012 - Indian River State defeated the Brevard Community College volleyball team in straight sets in the Melbourne Campus gym on Tuesday, winning 25-14, 25-13 and 25-22.

It was the second time Indian River State swept BCC this season. Indian River improved to 12-14 overall and 4-4 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference. BCC fell to 4-22 and 0-8.

Indian River rallied from an early 6-2 deficit to win the first set but was never threatened in the second as it stormed to a 20-8 lead. BCC made a match of it in the third set leading by one point four times before Indian River broke a 17-17 tie to pull away for the victory.

BCC head coach Herb Tokumoto stressed the need for discipline.

"Our discipline for our system needs to be executed in order for it to work," he said. "Tonight we didn't execute as well as we would like. I understand and I really know the girls know.

"It's having them understand every night, every night it has to come. It's not something you can turn on and off. The majority of them are so young. I continue to think there's going to be great things coming out of the group. It's just getting them to understand what it takes."

Next up for BCC is the Lake Sumer tournament with games at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. BCC's final home match of the season is 7 p.m. Oct. 25 against Polk State College in the Melbourne gym.
