BCC Volleyball Set for Friday Tri-Match

October 4, 2012 - Seeking to get back on the winning track, the Brevard Community College volleyball team returns to South Florida State College in Highlands for a tri-match on Friday against SFSC and State College of Florida.

BCC plays SFSC at 1 p.m. and State College of Florida at 3 p.m.

BCC is 3-18 and has lost eight straight matches. There is a bright spot though. Beginning next Tuesday BCC will once again play its home matches on the Melbourne Campus, this time on the new wood floor installed in the gym. BCC will host Miami Dade at 6 p.m.

That has head coach Herb Tokumoto naturally enthused. At the same time he is sticking with his goal of helping his young team mature.

"Most of what we've been talking about has been their mental and emotional game readiness," Tokumoto said. "The biggest thing is for them to understand that they are highly capable and have the ability to compete with the top teams that we've played.

"It's just you have to bring it all the way through. There's no letting up on the gas pedal. There is no coasting to the finish line. You have to push all the way through to the end."

BCC has been hampered by injuries to four starters but Tokumoto and the Titans are pressing ahead.

"We're nursing our injuries, hoping that our injured players can come back and give us the skill level and the competitiveness that the rest of the team can pull behind," he said.
