BCC Seeks Volleyball Rebound Against Broward
September 26, 2012 - With precious little time to regroup following Tuesday's dispiriting five-set defeat the Brevard Community College volleyball team faces another challenge Thursday when Broward College comes calling.
Game time is 7 p.m. on the Titusville Campus. Admission is free.
Broward is 2-3 in Florida College System Southern Conference matches and 3-6 overall. Broward swept visiting BCC in three sets on Sept. 6.
BCC is 0-5 in conference and 3-13 overall following Tuesday's loss to conference foe Palm Beach State, which rallied from a two-set deficit to overcome the Titans.
BCC head coach Herb Tokumoto is looking at the plusses from Tuesday and applying them to Thursday.
"To expand on the positives that we accomplished as a team: our blocking, hitting and defense, not imploding as a team and just giving up," he said. "The girls played hard and for the most part focused well.
"Since our team is made up of mostly freshmen whose average age is 17, I'm asking them to play at a continuous level of excellence which for any player is a task in itself. Our focus remains play with in our system, keep our level of intensity up."
Beyond the Broward match BCC travels to the South Florida Community College tournament in Highlands for an 11 a.m. match against Clearwater Christian and a 3 p.m. match against Pasco Hernando Community College on Friday and an 11 a.m. match against Lake Sumter Community College and a 1 p.m. match against Gulf Coast State College on Saturday.
Statistically, prior to the Palm Beach State match Ashley Gonzalez was leading BCC in kills with 183; Nia Frederick leading in blocks with 22 solo and 18 assisted; Taylor Gembecki leading in service aces with 18; Sara Watkins leading in digs with 128 and Taylor Gembecki leading in assists with 285.
