BCC Heads to Broward for Conference Volleyball
September 5, 2012 - Brevard Community College's volleyball team hits the road again Thursday for a 7 PM Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference match at Broward College and despite the rough start to the season spirits aren't lagging.
"They are busy and occupied with school and rightly so, they understand that losses are part of the game, they help each other in the spirit department," BCC head coach Herb Tokumoto said of his team which is 2-8.
"They have improved immensely. I can see the difference with the teams we compete against. If a coach brings in his subs to play your starting six you know you're weak. All the teams we've played have kept their top six in the whole match. These teams have been to state or in nationals so that tells me that they respect our team's capabilities."
And for a BCC team with 10 freshmen on its 14-player roster those capabilities are maturing.
"I believe that they are trying to adapt the level of play," Tokumoto said. "They want to be at this level. They are realizing it's more a mental game not just physical."
As for Thursday's match-up: "Broward is rebuilding so there is no telling what may happen," Tokumoto said. "What I will say is they are a contender. I expect us to perform at our level and within the system that we use and as always we look to win."
