BCC Drops Opening Volleyball Matches

August 24, 2012 - The Brevard Community College Titans volleyball team opened its 2012 season losing two matches on the opening day of the  Florida State College Kick-off Tournament in Jacksonville.

BCC fell 14-25, 18-25, 22-25 to Lincoln Land College of Springfield, IL in its opening match and then 23-25, 22-25 and 14-25 to host FSCJ in the nightcap.

"We definitely picked it up after a jittery start," BCC assistant coach Kim Tokumoto said.

BCC plays Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist at 10 AM today (Saturday). Its final opponent this afternoon will be determined by the outcome of the other matches.

Other teams in the tournament are Pensacola State College, Indian River State College of Fort Pierce, St. Johns River State College of Palatka and Wake Tech College of Raleigh, N.C.

This was the first appearance in the tournament for BCC which finished 19-20 in 2011 for its best showing in the last five seasons.

The Titans returned just four sophomores from last season - middle hitter Jamie Darragh, setter and defensive specialist Kayla Sullivan, middle hitter Alicia Vaccarelli and defensive specialist and libero Beth Williams – on their 14-player roster.
