Expectations High for Titan Volleyball as 2012 Season Nears

May 31, 2012, Melbourne, FL - Sporting its tallest front line in five seasons, the Brevard Community College volleyball team has expectations to match its height.

Featuring five players at 6 feet and above and two at 6 feet, 3 inches, the Titans hope to use that height to great advantage in the 2012 season that begins on Aug. 24 at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

The Titans play their home matches at the Melbourne campus gym.

Brevard finished 19-20 in 2011. It was its best effort since 2005, and head coach Herb Tokumoto believes this year’s team could surpass those results.

Entering his fourth season as head man, Tokumoto is stressing teamwork. With the incoming group of freshmen, the focus is melding as a team and having each individual athlete perform to the utmost of her ability, he said. With only five sophomores returning to the 13-player team, the Titans will be challenged in every match.

“To guide and inspire our young incoming student athletes on our journey to achieve the next level of excellence will require full-fledged devotion to each other as a team and to our coaching staff,” Tokumoto said.

“The returning core of student athletes has a task that will test their leadership, determination, desire and influence the path that we will take. I truly believe that these young ladies could draw the spotlight to our Lady Titan volleyball program and the level of our competition.”
