Eastern Florida Finishes Inaugural Women's Tennis Season With National Ranking

April 22, 2014 - Eastern Florida's women's tennis team and the Florida College System Activities Association are well represented in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Junior/Community Colleges Women's National Rankings.

Eastern Florida, which recently concluded its inaugural championship season, is ranked 22 nationally out of 25 teams. Its five peers from the FCSAA — State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota, St. Petersburg College, Florida State College Jacksonville, Broward College and Hillsborough Community College — are ranked fifth through 10th nationally respectively.

State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota, St. Petersburg College and Florida State College Jacksonville will represent the FCSAA and NJCAA Region 8 in the NJCAA Division I national tournament at Tyler, TX.

Individually Eastern Florida sophomore Kasey Love earned a 35th-place national ranking out of 49 players while freshman Isabella Sella was ranked 38th. In doubles Sella and sophomore Kaila Cochran were ranked 15th out of 25.

In total 15 FCSAA players were ranked in the top 49 individually and five doubles teams were ranked in the top 25.

"I'm very happy for and appreciative of the recognition for our team and our players," said Eastern Florida head coach Chuck Jacobs.

"And I am not at all surprised that all six FCSAA teams are nationally ranked and that there are so many individuals and doubles teams ranked as well. NJCAA tennis in Florida is top quality and as competitive as anywhere in the country and we are proud to be part of it."

Eastern Florida finished with a 3-11 record, defeating FSCJ, Alma College and Meridian Community College.
