EFSC Women's Tennis Loses 7-2 to State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota
Feb. 28, 2014 - Eastern Florida's women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Florida College System Activities Association and NJCAA Region 8 foe State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota on Friday at the Jimmy Moore Tennis Complex in Melbourne.
The loss dropped Eastern Florida to 2-3 in its inaugural spring championship season. State College of Florida improved to 2-1.
The visitors grabbed a 2-1 lead after the opening three doubles matches. Eastern Florida's Isabella Sella and Kaila Cochran won their match at No. 1 doubles 8-5 beating Natella Nabieva and Jen Weisman. But EFSC's Kasey Love and Hope Fellows lost 8-4 to Miranda Talbert and Emily Acierno at No. 2 and Laura Gorski and Erica Nielsen lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to Laura Lapp and Chloe Murphy.
In singles Eastern Florida lost at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 with Cochran scoring the only victory, defeating Weisman 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3.
Natella beat Sella 6-0, 6-0; Love lost to Talbert 7-6, 2-6, 6-10; Fellows lost to Acierno 6-1, 6-0; Nielsen lost to Lapp, 6-0, 6-1 and Gorski lost to Murphy 6-0, 6-0.
"We ran into a tough State College of Florida team today," said Eastern Florida head Chuck Jacobs. "We played hard but SCF's experience was too much for us."
Eastern Florida returns to action with three consecutive away matches next week playing host and FCSAA/Region 8 foe Florida State College Jacksonville at 5 p.m. Thursday, Meridian Community College at 9 a.m. Friday at Jacksonville and NCAA Division I Niagara University at 2 p.m. Saturday in Orlando.
The Titans next home match is April 5 against FCSAA/Region 8 foe Broward College. Admission to matches at the Jimmy Moore Tennis Complex is free.
