Eastern Florida Softball Has a Good Day in Tournament

March 8, 2014 - Eastern Florida's softball team won two of its three games in Saturday's one-day Indian River State College tournament in Vero Beach. The Titans improved to 12-15 on the season.

St. Mary's beat EFSC 6-4 in the first game with freshman Dajia Jones taking the loss for the Titans.

EFSC won its second game of the day in dramatic fashion defeating St. Petersburg 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Brooke Formby tied the game with a triple and Jones collected the game-winning hit.

Freshman Hannah Denny was the winning pitcher.

The Titans had a much easier time in the day's final game beating Heartland Community College 15-1.

Sophomore Manya Lopez had a grand slam for the Titans. Jones also homered and was the winning pitcher. Freshman Yesi Moreno went 2-for-3 while classmate Sara Vicente went 3-for-4.

Softball travels to Jacksonville on Sunday for a 1 and 3 p.m. doubleheader against Florida State College Jacksonville. The Titans then have a week off before opening Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference play at home on Saturday, March 15, against Palm Beach State at 1 and 3 p.m.

Admission to home games on the Palm Bay Campus is free.
