Eastern Florida Bats Hot in Frigid Softball Sweep
Feb. 13, 2014 - Eastern Florida's softball team shook off frigid weather to sweep host South Florida State College 13-8 and 8-4 on Thursday in Avon Park.
Playing in temperatures in the mid 40s Eastern Florida pounded South Florida pitching for a total of 23 hits in improving its record to 6-2. South Florida fell to 0-8.
Sophomore lefty Brooke Formby was the winning pitcher in the first game and freshman Dajia Jones the winner in the second.
Eastern Florida sophomore Manya Lopez was Thursday's hitting star going a combined 4-for-8 with five runs batted in and a solo home run in the second game.
Sophomore Devin Williams also hit a solo home run in the second game in going 3-for-3. Freshman Gabby Jones went 2-for-4 in the nightcap with two runs batted in.
Sophomore Bri Seaman went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in for the first game while freshman Kaitlyn Ortagus went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Next up for Eastern Florida is a Saturday doubleheader on the Palm Bay Campus against Florida State College Jacksonville. Games are at noon and 2 p.m. and admission is free.
