BCC Wins Wild Softball Doubleheader

February 28, 2013 - Brevard Community College and visiting St. Johns River played 15 innings and 6 ½ hours of softball on Wednesday to arrive at the same outcomes: BCC winning 14-13 in seven innings in the first game and 14-13 in eight innings in the second game.

"This is a first," BCC assistant coach Bob Yanczewski, who has been involved in softball game for 26 years, said of the wild doubleheader.

"It was very exciting in the end. We never gave up. We kept on fighting to the end."

Alex DeJesus was the winning pitcher in the first game for BCC and Alaina DeVeney, normally an outfielder, the winner in second game. BCC used four pitchers over the two games

Nichole Mills drove in winning two runs for BCC in the first game as the Lady Titans scored four runs in the bottom of seventh inning.

BCC scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the second game with Shannen Marchu driving in the two deciding runs.

Offensively for BCC Cassie Boggs was 5-for-7 for the doubleheader with a two-run home run, three runs scored and seven runs batted in; Marchu was 5-for-7 with the game-winning double in the second game; Bri Seaman also was 5-for-7 with two runs scored.

BCC totaled 34 hits for both games and improved its record to 13-16. St. Johns fell to 10-21.

BCC next plays a doubleheader at Lake-Sumter at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
