Eastern Florida Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season on the Road

Oct. 14, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's women's soccer team hits the road again this week to wrap up its regular season with games at Polk State College in Auburndale at 6 p.m. Tuesday and at Broward College in Pembroke Pines at 5 p.m. Friday.

Eastern Florida's Titans, 8-2-1, have defeated Polk and Broward twice apiece to secure their third straight NJCAA Region 8 championship and with that their third straight postseason appearance.

The Titans travel to Mississippi for the Nov. 9 District H title game against an opponent to be determined for a berth in the NJCAA Division I Women's National Championship Tournament to be played Nov. 18-23 on the Melbourne Campus.

Until then Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Carr's goal is to keep his team sharp after it broke out of a scoring slump with a 5-0 playoff-clinching victory over Broward on Friday in Melbourne.

After the Broward game, Eastern Florida is ranked second in shots per game at 26.5; fifth in shots at 292 and eighth in shots on goal at 205 but 38th in goals scored with 36.

Conversely the Titans have not allowed a goal in five straight games, have seven shutouts and have allowed only 11 goals this season.

"We are closer to achieving the balance — scoring and defense — that we need to be successful," said Eastern Florida State head coach Jeff Carr.

"Defensively, obviously, we have been doing our jobs over the last five games both in limiting our opponents scoring opportunities and getting the ball to our forwards. But, we can't be satisfied.

"Polk and Broward would love nothing more than to beat us in the final games. We can't even begin to look ahead to the postseason with two tough road games this week."

Eastern Florida is ranked 10th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Polk is 6-4.
