Eastern Florida Drops 1-0 Decision to Monroe Community College
Sept. 13, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's women's soccer team conceded a goal in the 66th minute on Friday to drop a 1-0 decision to host Monroe Community College in frigid Rochester, N.Y.
Playing on an overcast, 56-degree day with a 13 mph wind Eastern Florida outshot Monroe 16-6 and had seven shots on goal to three for the Tribunes. But one rebound that went awry allowed Monroe sophomore Jessica Riggall to beat Titans goalkeeper Amy Clason-Messina for the winning goal at the 65-minute, 11-second mark.
Conversely Monroe's defense frustrated the Titans and sophomore goalkeeper Paige Buchholz compounded it with seven saves to lift the Tribunes to 4-1 on the season with their fourth shutout.
Clason-Messina made two saves for the Titans who fell to 3-2-1 and play Jackson (MI) College (2-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday on Monroe's DiMarco field.
Eastern Florida came into Friday ranked fifth nationally by the NJCAA and sixth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Monroe was ranked seventh by the NJCAA and eighth by the NSCAA.
And while the Titans had the better of the flow of play they could not find the net.
"I'm very disappointed in our effort," Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Carr said. "We had so many chances but could not finish. We will not beat many teams playing that way."
