Eastern Florida Women's Soccer Improves to 2-0 with 6-0 Victory
Aug. 24, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's women's soccer team made it 2-for-2 in Mississippi on Saturday defeating Pearl River Community College 6-0 in rainy Perkinston to run its record to 2-0.
Eastern Florida, ranked second nationally in both the NJCAA Division I and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) polls defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 10-0 on Friday.
Sophomore Jenci Villaverde scored four times for Eastern Florida to run her total to six goals in two games. She also notched an assist.
Also scoring for the Titans were sophomore Amanda Lodge who had a goal and an assist giving her three goals and two assists in two games, and freshman Meghan Mauzy. Sophomores Nikki Mitchell and Kelsey Smith and freshmen Samantha Solis and Jamie Perriello also recorded assists.
Solis has three assists in two games.
Once again sophomores Amy Clason-Messina and Katelyn Kern split goalkeeping duties. Eastern Florid outshot Pearl River 27-2.
"We were pleased with the effort today especially in the rain and poor field conditions," Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Carr said. "We still need to improve in many areas."
Eastern Florida returns to action on Thursday hosting nationally ranked St Louis Community College, a 2012 NJCAA national tournament participant along with the Titans, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the new Melbourne Campus field.
Admission is free.
The Titans then host 2012 NSCAA Division III national champion Cerritos, CA, at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1.
