EFSC Women's Soccer Ranked Second Nationally in Two Polls

Aug. 14, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's women's soccer team has secured its best-ever pre-season rankings as the 2013 campaign approaches.

The team, which spent four weeks ranked No. 1 nationally by the NJCAA and finished as the Division I national runner-up last season, is ranked second in the NJCAA Division I and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) pre-season polls released this week.

Eastern Florida finished 15-2 last season in its third year as a program.

"We are both honored and humbled by the rankings," EFSC Athletic Director and head women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said.

"The players know what matters most is how we finish the season. There is a hunger to return to the national tournament but we have a challenging regular season to navigate first. That is our immediate focus."

Paradise Valley Community College of Arizona, which defeated Eastern Florida (then known as Brevard Community College) 3-0 in the 2012 NJCAA title game, is ranked No. 1 by the NJCAA and NSCAA.

Rounding out the top 10 in the Coaches poll are 2012 NJCAA national tournament participants Iowa Western Community College, Tyler Junior College of Texas, Butler Community College of Kansas, Monroe Community College of New York and Laramie Community College of Wyoming; Monroe College of New York, Navarro Junior College of Texas and Darton State College of Georgia. Darton also was a national tournament participant.

The top 10 in the NJCAA poll also includes Iowa Western, Tyler, Butler, Monroe, Laramie County, Darton, St. Louis Community College and Louisburg College.

EFSC opens its home season at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29 hosting St. Louis on the Melbourne Campus in the debut of the new soccer facility.
