Regular-Season Finale Looms for BCC Women's Soccer Team

October 22, 2012 - With one match remaining on the regular-season schedule Brevard Community College women's soccer head coach Jeff Carr is keeping things simple.

"We are working on being a little sharper," Carr said. "Playing for 90 minutes, getting our missing players back into the groove, being disciplined defensively and offensively and really focusing on the little things in the game."

BCC, 11-1 and ranked No. 1 nationally in the NJCAA Division I poll, plays at Polk State College at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Friday's match at Broward College has been cancelled.

BCC has already beaten Polk and Broward twice apiece, wrapping up the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference and NJCAA Region 8 titles in the process. But the Polk game is vital since it counts toward seeding in the NJCAA Division I national tournament should BCC qualify.

That will be determined on Saturday, Nov. 3 as BCC travels to Mississippi to play either Pearl River Community College or Meridian Community College. The winner captures the NJCAA District H title and a berth in the Nov. 11-17 national tournament at Melbourne Central Catholic.

Sophomore co-captain Lois Edvardsson leads BCC in scoring with 10 goals and two assists while fellow sophomore Courtney Hueston has seven goals and five assists. Freshman Sue Kumaning has four goals and four assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Kantor, who has played the majority of the minutes, has recorded 13 saves. BCC has outscored its opponents 31-9 in 11 games that included six shutouts. One win was by forfeit.
