Lightning Causes Cancellation of Men's Soccer Match in Georgia
Sept. 5, 2014 - Eastern Florida’s men’s soccer team held a 3-1 lead over Monroe College on Friday night in Albany, Georgia when lightning storms hit forcing the game to be suspended after 65 minutes of play.
The storms persisted, preventing the game from being resumed and putting it the books as a cancellation since it did not reach the 70-minute mark.
Freshmen Kyle Edmonds and Micah Smoak and sophomore Jordan Muir scored for the Titans but the goals do not count since the game was not completed.
“It was a very promising performance from the team,” said Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees. “It was great to see Micah dominate the game in midfield. Kyle Edmonds was a constant threat and won and converted a penalty kick.”
Eastern Florida’s record remains at 1-1 heading into Saturday’s 6 p.m. match with Georgia Military in Milledgeville. The Titans conclude their Georgia trip with a 1 p.m. Sunday match with Georgia Perimeter in Statesboro.
