Eastern Florida Men's Soccer Begins Practice
Aug. 5, 2014 - A spirited intra-squad scrimmage under the lights marked Eastern Florida State College's men's soccer team's first practice on Monday.
The Titans, under head coach Oliver Twelvetrees, open the season Friday, Aug. 22 playing Northeast Texas at the University of West Florida in Pensacola and follow up with a Saturday, Aug. 23 match with Hinds Community College, also at West Florida.
Between now and then Twelvetrees and assistants Danny McBride, Josh Schirmer and Bernie Quintero will be working to meld 10 newcomers with 14 returnees from last season's inaugural team that advanced to the NJCAA Division I national tournament and finished 14-1-3.
Living up to 2013 was part of the message Twelvetrees conveyed to his team before practice.
"We've got the highest of standards," he said. "Only the highest of standards will be accepted here. We expect them to work for their team every time they step across the white lines and give their all every single time they step on the field."
Eastern Florida's women's soccer team, shooting for its third straight national tournament appearance, began practice on Friday as did the Titans rejuvenated volleyball team.
Golf and tennis, which play non-championship fall seasons, begin practice on Aug. 18.
Women's soccer begins its season at home on the Melbourne Campus on Sept. 5 against Spring Hill College's junior varsity. Volleyball opens Aug. 23 at Lake-Sumter State College in Leesburg.
