Eastern Florida's Schirmer Receives Assistant Coach Award
Jan. 18, 2014 - Eastern Florida State College assistant men's soccer coach Josh Schirmer received his honor as National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College South Regional Assistant Coach of the Year at the organization's annual banquet on Friday in Philadelphia.
Schirmer was one of four assistants recognized. Athena Gramates of Howard Community College (MD) was National Assistant Coach of the Year.
"I am thrilled that Josh was named NSCAA Regional Assistant Coach of the year; what a deserving honor," said Eastern Florida Athletic Director Jeff Carr. "Josh has done a tremendous job helping (head coach) Oliver (Twelvetrees) with all facets of running a top notch men's program and he was one of the reasons the team went to the Nationals this year. Josh goes above and beyond in helping our men's soccer team succeed."
A Pensacola, FL, native Schirmer holds England FA Level 1 and USSF D coaching licenses. He played at NCAA Division II Tusculum College in 2000 and played at and graduated Magna Cum Laude from NAIA Tennessee Wesleyan College (2001-2004). He was a three-time Appalachian Athletic Conference Academic Team member (2002-2004) and a 2003 NAIA Academic All-America. He also played professionally in Hong Kong and Japan and coached in Japan.
