Eastern Florida Men's and Women's Soccer Playing This Weekend in Georgia

Sept. 19, 2013 - Georgia is definitely on the minds of Eastern Florida State College's nationally ranked men's and women's soccer teams this weekend.

The men, ranked 11th by the NJCAA and 12th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) play Georgia Perimeter in Dunwoody at 2 p.m. Saturday and Andrew College at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cuthbert. Georgia Perimeter is ranked 13th by the NJCAA and 14th by the NSCAA.

The women, ranked 14th by the NJCAA and seventh by the NSCAA, play Middle Georgia at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cochran.

The men are 4-1 and winners of three straight including a 4-3 upset of then nationally second-ranked Darton College and consecutive 3-0 shutouts of Middle Georgia and Florida College System Activities Association/NJCAA Region 8 foe Broward College.

The women are 4-2-1 coming off a 1-0 loss at nationally ranked Monroe (N.Y.) Community College and a 4-0 victory over Jackson (MI) College.

Georgia Perimeter's men are 4-1-2; Andrew was 3-4 heading into this week. Middle Georgia's women are 5-2-1.

Freshman Jordan Muir leads Eastern Florida's men in scoring with three goals and four assists. Freshman Justin Gavin has two goals and three assists.

The men rank 21st nationally in shots with 84; 28th in shots on goal with 51; 15th in shots per game at 16.8; 26th in assists with 17 and 46th in goals with 15.

Freshman goalkeeper Jorge Madera has allowed three goals and recorded 10 saves in 360 minutes. Freshman Justin Walker has one save and no goals allowed in 90 minutes.

Sophomore Jenci Villaverde leads Eastern Florida's women in scoring with nine goals and three assists. Sophomore Nikki Mitchell has four goals and three assists and sophomore Amanda Lodge has three goals and four assists.

Eastern Florida's women are third nationally in shots with 158; fifth in shots per game at 22.6; fifth in shots on goal at 109 and 16th in assists with 22. The Titans are 23rd in goals with 25.

Sophomores Amy Clason-Messina and Katelyn Kern have split goalkeeping duties, Clason-Messina allowing seven goals and making 15 saves in 445 minutes. Kern has allowed one goal and made five saves in 205 minutes.

The men's next home match is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 against Darton. The women next play at home at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 against Florida College System Activities Association/NJCAA Region 8 foe Polk State College. Admission to Eastern Florida home matches is free.
