Eastern Florida Men Fall to San Jacinto, 3-1
Aug. 24, 2013 - Nationally ranked San Jacinto (TX) Community College proved to be too much for Eastern Florida State College's new men's soccer team on Saturday, handing the Titans a 3-1 defeat in Perkinston, MS.
Eastern Florida fell to 1-1 for its first season.
San Jacinto, ranked 17th in the NJCAA Division I poll and 18th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), scored first but allowed Eastern Florida to tie on Alejandro Diaz's goal assisted by Farias Juarez and Jordan Muir.
San Jacinto then scored twice for the final margin. Eastern Florida goalkeeper Jorge Madera made eight saves. Diaz has scored in both Titans games.
"We learned a lot today from a good San Jacinto team," said Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We had some good moments but we were not able to sustain it. We will learn from this loss and get stronger."
Eastern Florida travels to NCAA Division II Barry University in Miami for a scrimmage on Friday and then heads to Georgia for games against nationally ranked Darton College on Sept. 6 and Middle Georgia on Sept. 7.
Eastern Florida debuts at home on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Broward College.
