Eastern Florida Men's Soccer Debuts With a Victory
Aug. 23, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's men's soccer team kicked off its inaugural season on Friday with a 4-0 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, MS.
Eastern Florida returns to action at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday against nationally ranked San Jacinto (TX) in Perkinston. San Jacinto is ranked 17th in the NJCAA Division I poll and 18th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Eastern Florida got goals from Jordan Muir, Farias Juarez, Alejandro Diaz – on a free kick - and Arturo Roosen to make head coach Oliver Twelvetrees and assistant Josh Shirmer winners in their first outing for the Titans.
Assists went to Keenan King, Kevyn McFarlane and Juarez.
Justin Walker and Jorzge Madera split the goalkeeping for Eastern Florida which outshot Mississippi Gulf Coast 19-2.
"It was a superb team performance," Twelvetrees said. "Farias created and scored a goal and was a constant threat. Manuel Goldberg controlled the midfield and (defenders) Mike O'Sullivan and Ivan Magalhaes dominated their forwards."
The Titans have been together as a team for only 18 days, holding their first practice on Aug. 5. The Titans played three scrimmages against four-year schools, winning two and tying one.
