Smith, Love Eastern Florida Student-Athletes of Week

Josh Smith

March 10, 2014 - Baseball pitcher Josh Smith and women's tennis player Kasey Love are Eastern Florida State's Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 9.

Smith, a freshman right hander from Mims, FL and Astronaut High, was the winning pitcher in 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball in relief in the Titans 2-1 Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference victory over Indian River State College on Wednesday. He also pitched three shutout innings in relief in Sunday's 8-2 conference victory over Broward College.

"Smith did a great job," Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Tam said. "He's consistent, he pounds the strike zone, he doesn't walk very many guys. He gives you a fighting chance."

Kasey Love

Love, a sophomore from Port Orange, FL and Slippery Rock University, teamed up with freshman Hope Fellows for a doubles victory against Meridian Community College of Mississippi on Friday and won her singles match as well. The Titans won the match 7-2.

"Kasey has been playing No. 1 singles which is hard enough but her practice and training have really excelled," said Eastern Florida head coach Chuck Jacobs.

"She also has been a leader and example-setter for our first-year team."
