Soccer Players Share EFSC Student-Athlete of Year Award


Ivan Magalhaes

June 3, 2014 - Freshmen soccer players Ivan Magalhaes and Jamie Perriello are the Eastern Florida State College Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year for 2013-2014.

Magalhaes, a defender from Sao Paulo, Brazil and Joao XXIII School was an NJCAA Division I first-team All-America selection and a key member of the men's team that qualified for the NJCAA Division I national championship tournament in its first year as a program. The men finished the season at 14-1-3.

Magalhaes also was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first-team All-South Region honoree.

Perriello, a midfielder from Boca Raton, FL and Boca Raton Community High was a second-team NSCAA and NJCAA Division I All-America selection. She played a crucial role for the women's team that reached its national tournament for the second straight time in its four years as a program. The women finished 12-3-1.

Perriello also was an NSCAA Women's All-South Region first-team honoree and NJCAA Division I Region 8 Most Valuable Player.

Eastern Florida women's defense was solid all season, posting nine shutouts including a streak of five straight. The Titans allowed 13 goals in 16 games for a goals against average of 0.84, good for 20th nationally.

The Titan men allowed 19 goals in 18 games for goals against average of 1.03, good for 18th in the nation.

Offensively the men scored 62 goals good for 23rd nationally. The women scored 45 goals, good for 35th nationally.

"I am really excited for both Ivan and Jamie receiving Athlete of the Year for Eastern Florida State College," said Jeff Carr, the associate vice president for athletics. "They both helped their teams go to the national tournament and compete on a very high level.

"They were both pivotal in the success of their team and were both All Americans. They are unselfish players and were more concerned about the success of their respective teams. We have had many deserving individuals this year with many accolades but I believe based on what Ivan and Jamie did to help carry their teams to the National Championships, they are our Athletes of the Year."
