Ribbon Cutting Set for Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame on Melbourne Campus

April 3, 2014 - The formal ribbon-cutting for the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame's re-location to the athletics building at Eastern Florida State's Melbourne Campus will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25.

Among the Hall of Fame members are Brevard Community College (now Eastern Florida State) graduate and former All-American baseball player Bruce Bochy, who has won two World Series titles in the last four seasons as manager of Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants; former long-time BCC head baseball coach Ernie Rosseau; former BCC golf coach Floyd Horgen who led his teams to seven national championships; and BCC graduate, former cross country runner and current adjunct faculty member Doug Butler who is the winningest high school cross country coach in Florida history in terms of state championships. Butler coaches at Melbourne's Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy.

Also, three men connected to Eastern Florida State College are part of the Hall of Fame's 28-member Class of 2014.

Among those to be inducted during a May 9 ceremony at the Cocoa Beach Country Club are:

• Jack Kenworthy, Lifetime Achievement: Baseball letterman at the University of Florida; assistant and head baseball coach at Brevard Community College (now Eastern Florida State) for 14 years and then an academic department chairman responsible for physical education, health, dance, social science and psychology who spent 30 years total at the college. He served on the Florida Community College Activities Association Baseball Committee and was the state baseball committee chairman for five years. Kenworthy also was a physical trainer at Health First Pro Health and Fitness on Merritt Island; race director for the Space Coast Marathon for three years; marathon training coach for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training from 1997 to 2002; runner; handball player; baseball umpire; and official basketball scorekeeper for Florida Tech.

• Mike Cadore, Football, Prep Category: A former high school, collegiate and professional football player, Cadore is a public safety program coordinator at Eastern Florida State College.

• Taylor Jordan, Baseball, Prep Category: A Merritt Island High graduate, Jordan pitched one season, 2009, for BCC and then manager Ernie Rosseau. Jordan now pitches in the Washington Nationals system.

Nominees were considered for the 2014 class in four categories: professional sports, college sports, high school sports and amateur sports. Special honorary recognition also was bestowed upon individuals and teams making significant contributions to sports on the Space Coast.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include past and current Hall of Fame inductees and Hall of Fame and Eastern Florida officials. Soft drinks and snacks will be provided.
