EFSC Head Athletic Trainer Denny Wins Prestigious National Award
Feb. 27, 2014 - Eastern Florida State College head athletic trainer Patti Denny has been honored with the Head Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for the Junior College/Community College category by the National Athletic Trainers Association's College/University Athletic Trainers' Committee.
Denny, a Miami native, holds a Masters of Arts degree in Sports Science and Pedagogy from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Spring, NC and a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC. Denny and assistant athletic trainer Amanda Scoville are responsible for the care of 160 student-athletes participating in nine intercollegiate sports at EFSC.
"To be chosen for this award with all the great junior college athletic trainers across the country is definitely a privilege," Denny said. "I am very fortunate to have received this award out of all the many qualified recipients.
"Anytime you receive acknowledgement for all the long hours and dedication to a student-athlete's well-being, it makes you feel good and that you are making a positive impact on their future.
"Receiving this honor also helps bring notice to the college and our athletics programs as we continue to grow. I wouldn't be in the position to receive this award without the opportunity and the support Athletic Director Jeff Carr and Eastern Florida State College have given me to begin an athletic training program. Any time you are being recognized for a career path that you have chosen is always a great feeling and an extreme honor."
Denny will be recognized at the NATA's 65th Clinical Symposia on June 27 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
"Patti is so deserving of this award as it is chosen by her peers," said Eastern Florida Athletic Director Jeff Carr. "This is considered the highest award you can receive as an athletic trainer. I have been around athletics and athletic trainers all of my professional life and I can honestly say Patti is the very best at her job; her passion for her job and her genuine concern for her athletes is extraordinary and is second to none. We are fortunate to have her as part of our staff."
