Eastern Florida's Aupont Named Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Feb. 11, 2014 - Eastern Florida's Rachelle (Rocky) Aupont has been named the NJCAA Region 8/Florida College System Activities Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9.
Aupont, a freshman forward from Orlando, FL and Edgewater High, averaged 22 points and 15 rebounds in two games during the voting period. She recorded double-doubles in consecutive games against Miami Dade College and Broward College while hitting 62.1 percent (18-of-29) of her shots from the floor.
Aupont scored 20 points and collected 13 rebounds against Miami Dade and followed up with a 24-point, 17-rebound effort against Broward.
Aupont also shot 60 percent (6-of-10) on three-pointers and hit 2-of-3 from the free throw line.
"Rocky is very deserving of this honor," Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes said. "She has improved so much over the season, and it is exciting to see that recognized. To be named the Player of the Week in one of the toughest regions in the country is a great achievement. I am very proud of her."
Aupont's teammate freshman guard Jessica Doyle received honourable mention for the week based on her averaging 30 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two games.
Doyle won Player of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 17 and Titans sophomore guard Torrance Rowe won men's Player of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 19.
