December 17, 2012 - Basketball players Olivia Atwell and Jure Gunjina share honors as Brevard Community College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 16.

Atwell, a sophomore guard from Vero Beach, FL, and Gunjina, a freshman forward from Zagreb, Croatia, both missed time early in the season due to injuries but are making their presences felt.

Atwell scored 18 points — all on three-pointers — in BCC's 80-55 loss to ASA College in the Lady Titans Classic on Saturday.

"It was nice to see Olivia back to herself," BCC women's head coach Renee Bellamy said. "She has experienced several injuries that set her back, but her confidence level has increased and it is a good thing to build on.

"She is a great shooter and I pray that she brings that same mentality in the games ahead."

Jure Gunjina

Gunjina scored a team-high 17 points and collected seven rebounds in the BCC men's 84-56 victory over TAAG Academy on Thursday.

"Jure has worked really hard to come back from the knee injury so it is great to see all of his effort pay off with an award like this," BCC men's associate head coach Jim Grimes said.

"He has picked up right where he left off before the injury. We really missed his versatility during his absence. We are grateful to have him back, and I know that he will only get better as the season goes on."
