Basketball Players Share Student-Athlete of Week Honors
December 10, 2012 - Women's basketball player Shaneece Stephens and men's basketball player Luka Pajkovic share honors as Brevard Community College's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 9.
Stephens, a sophomore co-captain and guard from Port St. Lucie, FL led BCC in scoring in the team's three games last week. She tallied nine points against Chipola College, 16 against Daytona State College and 29 of BCC's 59 points against Hillsborough Community College.
Stephens is averaging 15.2 points per game, the only BCC player in double figures.
"Shaneece Stephens is a true competitor and even though she has not started out like she did her freshman year, she is always working on her game to improve her abilities, in order to help our team win," BCC head coach Renee Bellamy said. "She played well against Hillsborough and seemed to be back to herself. So now we must build on that performance and continue to move forward."
Pajkovic, a sophomore guard from Belgrade, Serbia, led BCC in scoring in its 87-82 come-from-behind victory over Tallahassee Community College on Sunday tallying 25 points including five three-pointers.
Pajkovic scored 13 points in BCC's loss to Gulf Coast State College and scored 14 points and recorded six assists, seven rebounds and five steals in BCC's 121-57 victory over Webber College's junior varsity.
BCC head coach Jeremy Shulman praised Pajkovic's efforts.
"Luka was absolutely unbelievable for us at the Shootout this past weekend," Shulman said. "With a huge game Sunday against Tallahassee, Luka got his first start of the season, and had 25 big points in the win. We are very proud of Luka."
