Kiam Assato, Cooke Eastern Florida Student-Athletes of Week

Oct. 28, 2013 - Freshmen Carol Kiam Assato and Drew Cooke are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for Week ending Oct. 27.

Carol Kiam Assato

Assato, a volleyball libero and defensive specialist from Doctors Charter School in Sao Paulo, Brazil, ranks second on the team in digs with 190 and service aces with 27. But her contributions transcend the numbers, said her head coach Herb Tokumoto.

"This is an award that I feel should not only be about statistics but also those intangibles that makes the athlete valuable to her team and teammates," Tokumoto said.

"This is why I believe Carol is very deserving of this award. She brings solid serving and defensive tenacity. The real plus is her motivation for her teammates and her consistency with her motivation. Win or lose she is always pushing and cheering her team."

Drew Cooke

Titan golfer Cooke, from Homosassa, FL and Lecanto High was the medalist in the Darton Fall Invitational/NJCAA District Preview which Eastern Florida won.

"Drew Cooke's win this past week was the result of hard work and preparation prior to the event," Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell said. "Coupled with good execution, I would expect to see his name in the top 10 quite often throughout our season."

Eastern Florida won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 846. Cooke finished first with a 54-hole total of 211.
