Nationally Ranked Opponents Dot EFSC Fall Schedules

Aug. 14, 2013 - Four Eastern Florida State College sports teams will play nationally ranked opponents this fall.

The women's soccer team, which finished as the NJCAA Division I national runner-up last season, is ranked second nationally in the NJCAA Division I and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) polls. It plays two ranked teams, NSCAA and NJCAA sixth-ranked Monroe Community College of Rochester, N.Y. on Friday, Sept. 6 in New York, and opens its home season on Thursday, Aug. 29 on the Melbourne Campus against NSCAA No. 15 and NJCAA No. 9 St. Louis Community College.

The inaugural men's soccer team faces Darton State College of Georgia, ranked third in the NJCAA Division I pre-season poll, and San Jacinto College of Texas, ranked 17th.

Darton is ranked third in the NSCAA poll and San Jacinto 18th. The NJCAA ranks Darton third and San Jacinto 17th.

Tyler Junior College of Texas, the NJCAA Division I men's national championship tournament host, was ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA and NSCAA polls.

"I deliberately made our schedule tough," Twelvetrees said. "After all, if we are fortunate enough to advance to the postseason we will be facing top-caliber teams. We have to be prepared."

The men can reach the postseason by defeating Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference foe Broward College twice in their three games.

The volleyball team faces FCSAA Southern Conference foe Miami Dade College, ranked seventh, twice and Hillsborough Community College, ranked 14th.

Volleyball visits Miami Dade on Thursday, Sept. 19 and hosts the Sharks on Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the Melbourne Campus. Volleyball hosts Hillsborough on Friday, Oct. 4.

"The fact that we play nationally ranked teams is a good test for us and helps us improve every time we play," EFSC head volleyball coach Herb Tokumoto said. "It just makes us better."

Western Nebraska Community College is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA volleyball poll.

Among opponents the Eastern Florida golf team will face this fall is defending national champion Central Alabama Community College which figures to be highly-ranked when the first Golf Digest/Nike Golf NJCAA Division I poll is released in September.

EFSC will face Central Alabama three times this fall.
