February 25, 2013 - Basketball player Addison Spruill and baseball player Chris Dennis, both sophomores, share the honors as Brevard Community College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 24.

Spruill, a 6-foot, 4-inch guard and forward from Currie, N.C. and Pender High School, grabbed the final crucial rebound and scored the final points on two free throws in BCC's 66-63 championship-clinching victory over Broward College.

Spruill finished with a team high 19 points and 10 rebounds as BCC captured its first Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference title since the 1999-2000 season.

"Addison has been solid for us all season and the Broward game was no exception," BCC head coach Jeremy Shulman said. "Great players come through when the pressure is at its most intense and that's what Addison did as we clinched our championship.

"He is deserving of any and all honors he receives."

Dennis, a shortstop from Rockledge, FL, and Rockledge High School, has been outstanding at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in during a 9-3 victory against Community College of Baltimore County; went 4-for-7 with a double, triple and eight runs batted in a 19-15 triumph at Daytona State College and was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs batted in and a first-pitch-of-the-game home run in an 8-7 loss to Seminole State.

"Chris, obviously, has been seeing the ball very well," BCC head coach Jeff Tam said. "But his performance goes beyond just that. Chris is a competitor and for him every pitch, every swing and every play is the most important.

"His leadership at the plate is mirrored by his leadership on the field. He deserves the recognition."
