February 18, 2013 - Freshman men's basketball player Mike Kirkland and sophomore women's basketball co-captain Kasie Berry share honors as the Brevard Community College Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17.

Kirkland, a 6-foot, 6-inch power forward from Ocala, FL and West Port High School, scored 18 second-half points in BCC's crucial Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference victory on Saturday at Miami Dade College in Kendall.

Kirkland's offense, defense and rebounding were vital to BCC's 87-83 triumph that put the Titans in position to win their first conference title since 1999-2000 at home on Wednesday against Broward College.

"Mike was really, really good in the second half for us," Shulman said. "You've got to have guys who are ready to step up when their name is called and Mike did that on Saturday.

"I am proud of his efforts and of him receiving recognition."

Berry, a 6-foot forward from Apopka, FL and West Oaks Academy, scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in BCC's 63-43 loss at St. Petersburg College on Tuesday and scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in BCC's 52-51 victory over Indian River State College on Saturday.

"Kasie's hard-nosed play and her competitiveness have not wavered throughout our struggles this season," BCC head coach Renee Bellamy said.

"Kasie comes to play be it in practice or in a game and she is deserving of any accolades she receives."
