January 12, 2013 - Seventy-two golfers turned out for Friday's Brevard Community College Foundation Titans Athletics Fundraiser golf tournament at Rockledge Country Club.

They were joined by a host of athletes representing all seven of the college's intercollegiate sports, by several coaches and staff members.

In welcoming the golfers college President Dr. Jim Richey thanked them for their support.

"Brevard Community College has had many, many successes in many areas over the years and certainly athletics has been one of them," Dr. Richey said. "We've increased our athletics in so many ways: coaches, new facilities, new teams and (there is) real enthusiasm in the community to embrace them.

Dr. Richey confers with former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield who played in the tournament.

"I'm very, very proud to be associated with this group, and this athletic program. And your support is going to help them in a big way today."

At the post-tournament dinner BCC head coach Jamie Howell, who organized the fundraiser along with Athletic Director Jeff Carr and the Foundation, gave special recognition to former BCC golfer U.S. Army Capt. Francis McCahill, who participated on Friday, and longtime Rockledge Country Club head pro Ed Buckey.
