Three Basketball Players Honored as BCC Student-Athlete of the Week
January 7, 2013 - Three Brevard Community College basketball players share honors as Student-Athlete of the Week.
Sophomore women's forward Briana Reeves was honored for the week ending Dec. 30 for her team-leading 14-point, nine-rebound effort against Hillsborough Community College.
Reeves hails from St. Paul, MN.
Sophomore women's basketball guard Shaneece Stephens shares the honor with freshman men's basketball forward Devontay Clark for the week ending Jan. 6.
Stephens, from Port St. Lucie, FL, led BCC in scoring against St. Louis Community College and Broward College, tallying 27 and 21 points respectively.
BCC women's head coach Renee Bellamy lauded Reeves' and Stephens' contributions.
"Both Briana and Shaneece have put forth great efforts this season and we will be looking for them to continue," Bellamy said. "Both are deserving of the recognition and here's hoping it helps keep them be focused and ready to play."
Clark, a forward from Palm Bay, FL and Heritage High, scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded five steals against Tampa Bay International Academy. It was his first double-double of the season.
BCC men's head coach Jeremy Shulman praised Clark's efforts.
"Devontay's hard work and focus has really paid off, and it showed in his outstanding first game of the second semester," Shulman said. "Devontay is very deserving of this honor, and hopefully this is just the beginning of great things to come for him."
