From the Pitch: BCC Soccer Co-Captain Launches Weekly Web Column
Aug. 6, 2012 - Lois Edvardsson, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, is co-captain of the Brevard Community College women's soccer team.
The sophomore forward will be a key player for BCC as the Titans seek to improve on last season's 9-4-1 record and earn a berth in the Nov. 12-17 NJCAA Division I national tournament, which will be held at Melbourne Central Catholic.
BCC missed qualifying for the 2011 tournament by one goal in a 2-1 loss to eventual championship finalist Darton College of Georgia.
Playing in the tournament is the goal for Edvardsson and her teammates. She is documenting the Titans' season in a weekly web column called From the Pitch that begins today and will continue throughout the 2012 campaign.
Here is her first entry:
My goal for this team, this new team of talent, has been the same since the end of last season – to play in the 2012 National Championship. From what I saw the first week of preseason, I have no doubt that this goal is reachable. But with 16 freshmen we are going to have to work hard to come together as a team, so that we play to the best of our abilities.
We started our preseason on Aug. 1 and our fitness was tested right away at the first session when we ran the 300s. With mixed results, I think all players realized how much work they really need to put in for this season. On the two other sessions (yes, we practice three times a day) we played a lot of soccer, and it was fun to see all the new players show their skills. We also have started to work on our shape and the technical and tactical aspects of the game. Coaches, staff and players – we are all tremendously excited for this season, and I truly believe that this team will accomplish great things.
I want to give a special thanks to all the players who showed great dedication during the 2011 season. You built the ground we stand on today. But now the time is ours, and we will continue to build this successful team, and we will build higher, we will build faster and we will build stronger.
The time is now.
