BCC Student-Athletes Earn National Academic Honor

June 20, 2012, Melbourne, FL - Four Brevard Community College student-athletes are included on the list of 2011-2012 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards winners.

They are: Marc Palazzolo, baseball, 3.8 GPA, Superior Academic Achievement; Hayley Reath, soccer, 3.6 GPA, Exemplary Academic Achievement; Alison Spry, soccer, 3.6 GPA, Exemplary Academic Achievement; and Brittany Stone, softball, 3.6 GPA, Exemplary Academic Achievement.

“We are very excited for the achievement of the four student athletes who were recognized by the NJCAA,” Athletic Director Jeff Carr said. “BCC builds champions through academic achievement, athletic excellence and national recognition in the classroom and on the playing field. These four student athletes represent BCC well in all aspects of their lives.”

Palazzolo was a Dean’s List honoree for the spring semester, Spry achieved Honors List recognition, Reath made the Dean’s List and Stone the President’s List.

All told, 37 of BCC’s 116 student-athletes were represented on the President’s List, Honors List or Dean’s List for the spring 2012 semester.

The National Junior College Athletic Association has more than 525 member schools. Students who have completed three semesters or accumulated 45 total hours were eligible for recognition. More than 1,680 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual honors. Nearly 60,000 student-athletes competed in the NJCAA for the 2011-2012 academic year on more than 3,500 teams in 28 sports.

The award categories are Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale); Award for Superior Academic Achievement (3.80 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale) and Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.60 to 3.79 on a 4.00 scale).
