Eastern Florida Golfers Close Gap on Florida Tech
Nov. 2, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College golfers made up some ground on crosstown Florida Tech on Saturday's second day of the three-day Collegiate Players Cup tournament at Suntree.
NCAA Division II Tech leads NJCAA Division I Eastern Florida 5-3 with a total of eight points needed to win. Competition concludes beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with seven singles matches. Spectators are welcome.
Saturday's alternate shots format results were:
Arthur Leonard and Drew Cooke, EFSC, lose 1 down to Ray Badenhorst and Brandon Lau; Kyle Benson and Nick Maynard, EFSC, win 1 up over Justin Kalanquin and Brett Krog; Brad Gray and Dalton Bartlett, EFSC, halve with Andrew Wuethrich and Jimmy Bologna; Lorenzo Bolivar and EFSC coach Jamie Howell, win 2 and 1 over Ryan Carter and Tech coach Chris Saltmarsh.
Eastern Florida scored 2 ½ points to 1 ½ for defending champion Tech.
"Eight points are needed to win the cup and there are seven matches on Sunday," Howell said. "Three of the four matches went to the 18th hole today as each match has been close for both teams. Tomorrow's result will probably be determined by who gets off to a better start. It's very difficult to make up more than one or two holes late in a match. Both teams have played well through two days of play and I look for more of the same on Sunday."
