Eastern Florida Golfers Finish Fifth in Alabama
Nov. 12, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's golf team struggled to a fifth-place finish in the fall season-ending Central Alabama/Willow Point Country Club Invitational in Alexander City, AL on Tuesday.
The Titans shot a second-round 326 to go with Monday's 302 for a 36-hole total of 628, failing to gain any ground. Wallace State Community College of Alabama won with a 592. Faulkner State was second at 597 and defending national champion Central Alabama third at 610.
Individually the medalist was Chris Atchley of Wallace State who shot 70 on Tuesday to finish at 142.
For Eastern Florida sophomore Kyle Benson finished at 156; freshmen Brad Gray and Drew Cooke at 157; and sophomores Nick Maynard at 161 and Arthur Leonard at 162.
Playing individually for Eastern Florida freshmen Lorenzo Bolivar shot 156 and Dalton Bartlett 167.
"The wind blew at between 15-30 mph, it just ate us up, simple as that," said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell whose team recorded two tournament victories this fall.
"It was such an awkward day to play. It was a huge learning experience. File it away and move on."
