Eastern Florida Golf Team Finishes Fifth in Fall Season Opener
Sept. 10, 2013 - Eastern Florida State's golf team finished where it started in the fall season-opening tournament at Wallace State in Cullman, AL on Tuesday.
The Titans shot their third consecutive round of 287 to finish at 861 for fifth in the 11-team field, the same position they occupied after Monday's 36-hole first day.
"This is our wake-up call right here," Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell said. "We know we need to get better at everything we do.
"We still need to improve our short game. It's pretty obvious short term. Long-term we've got some good stuff to work with."
Individually for Eastern Florida Brad Gary shot 70 on Tuesday to finish at 214. Arthur Leonard shot 73 for 216; Kyle Benson shot 70 for 218; Drew Cooke carded a 75, also for 218 and Nick Maynard shot 74 for 221.
Defending NJCAA Division I national champion Central Alabama won the tournament, shooting 279 on Tuesday for 837. Wallace State was second at 842. Darton State and Faulkner State tied for third at 855.
Next up for Eastern Florida is the Sept. 22-23 Webber Warrior Fall Invitational in Lake Wales, FL.
