Eastern Florida Golf Team Opens Fall Season at Alabama Tournament
Sept. 5, 2013 - Eastern Florida State College's golf team begins its 2013 fall season on Monday and Tuesday at Wallace State Community College in Cullman, AL with head coach Jamie Howell still in assessment mode.
"It's too early to list performance goals for this team," Howell said. "We're young and I need some time to evaluate where we are competitively.
"Last year's team was deeper at this point. Keith Greene was a returning All-American and Anthony Skirk and Blake Biggs had both stepped up their games going into the fall season. Arthur Leonard and Kyle Benson return with a wealth of experience from last year and the new recruits will show their mettle in the upcoming events."
Nine teams are expected to compete at Wallace State including defending national champion Central Alabama Community College.
A focus of Howell's this fall has been the short game which bedeviled the Titans last season. And in that regard it's so far, so good.
"The short game and putting practice has been going well," Howell said. "The guys have grasped what it is we are after and what we need to do to get there."
Eastern Florida, which finished the 2012 season with a fifth-place finish in its 11 consecutive appearance in May's NJCAA Division I National Tournament, has six events on the fall schedule.
Eastern Florida's lone local appearance this fall is the Nov. 1-3 Collegiate Players Cup event with Melbourne's Florida Tech.
