Golf National Tournament Journal: It Could Have Been Us

Arthur Leonard

May 20, 2013 - Brevard Community College freshman golfer Arthur Leonard competed along with his teammates in the NJCAA Division I Men's National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, TX last week, and related his experiences in a daily journal. Here is his fourth and final report.

Round four and again there was not much wind and the temperature was high, forecast to be 102.

My tee off time was 1:44 p.m. Friday and we were in the second to last wave out. When we arrived at the course the first thing I noticed was the heat. I was on the putting green for 10 minutes and I was already sweating.

I was more nervous than the first three days. I couldn't wait to tee off. Finally I teed off and again I played really well, shooting 70. I hit 15 greens and had 32 putts, which is better than the previous three days but still could be better.

As a team we shot 287, 1 under par. Unfortunately it was not enough to challenge for the title as we finished fifth. I finished 29th individually. I am slightly disappointed because I feel it is a tournament that could have been special but unfortunately my putter held me back.

Central Alabama won the national championship and I'm happy for them but I feel that it so easily could have been us.
