Titans Golf Finishes 2nd at District Championship
May 1, 2012 - The Brevard Community College Titans golf team finished second while hosting this year's NJCAA District 4 Championship.
Playing 54 holes at the 6436 yard, par 71, Rockledge Country Club, the Titans finished second to Meridian Community College (MS) in the field of 12 teams. Meridian overcame a five shot deficit in round three and won by eight strokes over host Brevard, 880 – 888.
Meridian's Jake Stirling took home medalist honors with a final total of 208 (67-70-71). Stirling was the only player to finish under par, as the 95-year-old country club course was a formidable test in the windy conditions.
Freshman Keith Greene led the way for the Titans, finishing in third place at 220 (71-72-77). Sophomore Billy Anderson logged his seventh top ten finish of the year with a tie for fourth at 221 (71-72-78). Rounding out the scoring for BCC were sophomores Justin Kalanquin (73-77-76 = 226), Bryan Odaiyar (77-73-76 = 226), both tying for twelfth, and Travis Tolbert (80-75-75 = 230) Tie 19.
With the second place finish, the Titans qualify for the NJCAA National Championship to be held May 15 – 18 in Newton Kansas. Daily and live scoring updates will be available at www.golfstat.com during the championship week.
