BCC Golfers Have Successful First Day Against Florida Tech

November 2, 2012 - Brevard Community College's golfers enjoyed a successful day in the opening round of the Collegiate Players Cup against Florida Tech at Viera's Duran Golf Club on Friday.

Playing an alternate shot foursomes format – the same as the Ryder Cup – BCC won two matches, halved the third and dropped the fourth.

BCC's Brett Maue and Nelson Apsey defeated FIT's David Glenister and Wyatt Racette 3 and 1 and BCC's Kyle Benson and Nick Maynard bested Andrew Wuethrich and Jimmy Bologna 5 and 4.

BCC's Arthur Leonard and Anthony Skirk halved against FIT's Ray Badenhorst and Bret Krog while FIT's Justin Kalanquin and Brandon Lau defeated BCC's Keith Greene and Blake Biggs 2 and 1.

BCC leads after the first day 2.5 to 1.5.

"Benson and Maynard had a very good day as they were one under par for the 14 holes they played," BCC head coach Jamie Howell said.

"Maue and Apsey played well in their win. Leonard and Skirk had a tough match all day and lost the 18th hole to halve their match. Greene and Biggs lost to a good match to former BCC team member Justin Kalanquin and FIT sophomore Brandon Lau."

Saturday's format is four ball competition under which the best ball score on each hole for each team counts. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. at Duran Golf Club. Spectators are welcome.
