NJCAA District 4 Preview Next for BCC Golf Team

October 18, 2012 - The Brevard Community College golf team hits the road again this time for the NJCAA District 4 Preview tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Pendleton, S.C.

The 54-hole, 11-team tournament will be held on the par-71, 6,500-yard Boscobel Golf & Country Club course.

BCC has finished in the top three as a team in its first three events. It will match strokes with Central Alabama Community College; Cape Fear Community College; Darton College; Faulkner State Community College; Meridian Community College; University South Carolina-Lancaster Community College; Spartanburg Methodist Community College; Gordon College; host Tri County Technical College; and Wallace State Community College.

BCC head coach Jamie Howell has specific goals in mind.

"We need to pick up the pace with our scoring in tournament play and send a message to all of the other teams competing that BCC is a team to be reckoned with at every event we enter," he said.

"We need to maximize scoring opportunities and minimize mistakes and unforced errors. We just finished going over our stats for the first three events and the areas that need improving are obvious: scoring opportunities and fewer unforced errors.

"We have had three freshman (Arthur Leonard, Brett Maue and Kyle Benson) finish in the top five to date. It's time for a sophomore to step up, too, and have more than one player record a top-five finish at a tournament."
